Carved platinum and alexandrite engagement ring and fitted wedding band

We've just finished a hand-carved fitted wedding band to complete this unusual engagement and wedding ring set. The two rings are made from platinum and the engagement ring is set with a beautiful alexandrite, which changes colour from blue (when seen in daylight) to red (when seen under tungsten light).



Both the engagement ring and wedding ring are hand-carved and are unique, one-of-a-kind pieces. The platinum wedding band is shaped to curve around the engagement ring and has contrasting matt and polished surfaces, which emphasise the sculptural qualities of the design.

To create unique, asymmetric rings like this we carve the forms in wax, then cast in precious metal. Carving is an instinctive and direct process, which enables us to adjust and refine forms as we carve to create perfectly balanced proportions. We begin with sketches on paper but find that the form evolves instinctively as we carve.
